MG MGA - Racing seat in RHD coupe
I seem to remember a thread about a racing seat in an A, but cannot remember what the solution was!! It's my age! The problem is that it encroaches on the handbrake lever. Has anyone come up with a quick and dirty to get around this? Ta Colin |

Hi I have a Recaro seat in my coupe, its the only seat I could find to fit. I had to trim a bit of the fibreglass base to clear the handbrake. I'll take a photo this afternoon Terry |

Colin I have a Mazda RX7 seat in mine - no trim needed but a few extra holes in the floor. Dave |

Terry, thanks for that. It looks tight!! Is it an FIA car? I have just spoken to the FIA scrutineer, and apparently I do not have to fit an FIA seat, even though it is an FIA car. I can use a 'period' bucket seat. Any comments / thoughts? Colin |

Hi The car is a bit too modified for FIA!! The seat is FIA approved though. I have a period bucket seat and was going to use it, but after a friend had a serious neck injury whilst racing I decided to fit a proper seat. The problem with a coupe is the room in the cockpit, there are very few seats available that are narrow enough to fit. The seat is a Recaro Apex, model number 070790628. Bob West sells a period bucket seat. Terry |

I have solved part of the problem. I have remounted the handbrake on the left side of the tunnel! Will try to put a pic on tomorrow. Quite pleased with that! Unfortunately the seat now catches on the diagonal of the cage!! Will have to look at that after my hol CP |

For superb race seats that don't look out of place in an MGA visit Scott Brown's site at www.vintage31.com Scott makes them specifically for the MGA and they are very sexy! |

Photo of modiofied handbrake, now fitted to the left side of the tunnel. Nice!! ![]() |

Rich, thanks for the info on vintage31. I think I need a bit more padding! Colin |
Colin Parkinson |
Hi Colin Good idea! I see you haven't drilled your lever, more holes = less weight. My coupe has more holes than Swiss cheese. Don't drill important things like brake padals and steering parts! Terry |

Rich - Thank you so kindly for the plug! Our seat can and do get padding and covers. We choose not to cover our seats for show reasons. PS... Our MGA #41 received the prestigious "Best Appearing and Performing Award" this year at the Rolex Monterey Historic Race. MGAs are being recognized! This is our 3rd award from General Racing in the past 2 years! Happy Holidays all! PS - Terry... where did you get the aluminum trans tunnel? Beautiful! ![]() |

Tunnels were made in house by my me and my panel beater (now retired) We used 1mm sheet for the tunnel and 2mm for the floor Terry |
