MG MGA - Rad hose,help

I received at new top hose Moss#470-270, URO parts #GRH305X

This is the poorest excuse for a replacement part. Does any have Moss part number 470-275 hose or know of a better hose than what seems to be the norm.Looking for any suggestion. Moss UK have a different part number but not an acutual picture of the hose so I don't know if it is the same off shore junk. Thanks for any help Duncan

Duncan, I have resorted to taking the old one to a supplier and asking them to match it with anything as long as the bends and diameter are correct. I have then cut the piece I need and installed.
I have used Ford, GMH and Datsun hoses, usually much longer, to allow cut down.

Try Classic Silicone Hoses in UK. Just replaced all hoses on a Twin Cam with their old style wrap in black. Combines the advantage of modern silicone hose with look-a-like old style. Also helpful couple who run it. Hopefully I can forget about hoses now for a few years!
Good luck. Bruce.

Gates hose #21611 had bends that I could make both upper and lower hoses out of.

Duncan,

Current replacement hoses are rubbish. I had a new one a couple of years ago that "sweated" water through it before it was even pressurised! Came from our old friends Octagon, but probably a MOSS product. They are made in India, I believe.

Personally, I do not like the look of the Gates hose in Ed's photo. When you open the bonnet of an MGA you expect to see the corrugated hose at the top. The lower hose is not so critical, as it is harder to see.

Like the idea of Classic Silicone hoses. I will check these out, I think.

Kelvin Dodd mailed me yesterday to let me know that they will soon have a superior quality hose that looks like the original. quote

I did get approval to add the product as a visually correct, high
quality alternative to what everyone else is selling. We decided to use the old Unipart OE part number 470-275 and I got it set up and ready to go. Unfortunately, at that point it fell through the cracks and no order was placed. That's what happens when I don't follow up on things.

The purchaser is off today, but I'll have him place the order tomorrow
and get pricing set up.

Peter,
In my early years working on cars, the corrugated hoses were always what you had to use if you could not get the proper molded hose. That's what comes to my mind whenever I see a corrugated hose on a car. That said, I did buy the corrugated hoses and promptly returned them as they were junk, nothing like the original hoses. My car is not a show car, but a nice "driver". I try to keep it close to original but am not opposed to using parts that are of better quality than what is offered by the aftermarket reproduction vendors. I will not pay a premium price for inferior quality parts. Everyone has different standards that they strive for. One of my standards is proper functioning of parts over original looking parts. The weather here has been great lately and we have been putting lots of miles on the MGA and enjoying the sunshine. How has the weather been up in B.C.?
