MG MGA - Radiator bottom hose clip

A daft question I know, but what is the best orientation for the jubilee style clip that secures the bottom hose to the radiator.

Is it best to have the screw head pointing upwards and fasten the clip from the top of the car? or is it best to have the screw head facing towards the bottom of the car and fasten the clip from under the car?Or are there any other options?

I usually secure the hose to the radiator before I put the Rad in the car but if it leaks I need to remove the Rad to tighten the clip. Any tips on hoses and clips also appreciated.

The Jubilee clip, or double wire original type, should be on the outside of the hose.

I don't know that there is a right or wrong way to fit the hose clamps. Personally, I always try to fit fasteners on the MGA with the orientation that will let them be as reachable as possible when I am trying to make a repair on the side of the road or in a parking lot. So, I fit the lower hose clamps so that they are reachable from the top side of the car. I always keep a "stubby" screwdriver in the tool kit to work on those bottom hose clamps.

John,

I found that mounting the clamp so that the screw head is on the outside toward the wheel works well. There is access on my car in the wheel well to easily tighten the clamp with a regular screwdriver. I don't remember if it is on top or bottom. Whichever works best.

Jim gets my cigar. Turn the steering full left and reach in through the wheel well between top of frame and bottom of inner fender. I use screw type clamps and a nut driver socket with a long extension. Works a treat. Should work the same with a wire clip and long screwdriver.

Thank you everyone for your contribution. Jims method as endorsed by Barney worked a treat.

Actually, I think that Mr Tilbury's comment is the most apt!!
