MG MGA - rear cockpit rail trim
Please advise if the rear cockpit trim rail piping is one continuous piece, ie from door to door or is the piping in 3 pieces, that is, a separate section of piping for each trim rail, an image would be appreciative if possible |

Hi Guys I must differ I believe the piping is in 3 pieces. The first MGA I restored in the mid 70s was complete and original and my photo slides of the restored vehicle show 3 pieces. In addition an Autocar road test from 1958 of a Twin Cam Roadster PMO326 shows 3 pieces plus laterly when recoving the aluminium cockpit end pieces on my current resto I removed a short section of original piping that showed the outer vinyl tucked back on itself (around the corded inner) and stapled to the hide backing.

Clausager's Original MGA page 46 seems to support Mark's view. Shane |

Piping should be in 3 pieces. |

Confusion--
I believe the trim itself is in 3 pieces ,one for each piece but the actual piping between the 3 trim pieces and the body is one piece, door to door BUT instructions from a well known trim kit supplier which i can't completely copy here as its protecteded states-- "With the two smaller pieces of leather supplied fit the curved rear quarter rails, whilst the leathercloth is for the centrepieces. One piece of piping should then be tacked to each rail and go between the body and the top of the rail. Offer it up to the bodywork before finally tacking or stapling to make sure of a good fit." I think myself one piece looks much neater as Nick's pic. shows willy |

The original MKII that I have just recommissioned had only 1 piece of piping door to door. It still wears the white piping from the all-original trim, matching the seat trim complete with wear from the no-longer fitted seatbelts. |

All Twin cams I restored had a three piece trim att photograph of a very original one ![]() ![]() |

I posed the question of 3 pcs. or 1 pc. for the rear piping on another site and it would appear that 3 separate pcs is correct, as shown in the photo in Clausager's book. I stand corrected!
