MG MGA - Rear sub-harness missing

Hey all,

a few years ago, knowing that I was going to replace all the wiring in the coupe, I bought an NOS harness. When I opened it and layed it out recently, I discovered the "side harness" ended at the right bumper bracket attachment point with numerous connecting ends. Seems there is supposed to be a rear sub-harness. The dash harness was present. Wiring harnesses sold today incorporated the rear sub-harness into the entire wiring system. No rear harness. Does anyone know a supplier who sells individual sub-harness components? Thanks!
Robert Maupin

Robert. Have you tried British Wiring? They may be able to help you. It would, also, be useful to know from whom you purchased the original wiring harness.

Purchased the original harness from Ebay. Information regarding the sell long since gone/lost. I'll give British Wiring a call. Thanks!

British Wiring doesn't list a seperate "rear" sub-harness. Just the complete "main" harness like other suppliers list and a seperate "dash" harness. Anyone with other suggetions? Cheers!

Robert,
try www.vinwire.com.au - the owner is an MG person, he may be able to help

You could perhaps contact this UK-based maker of classic car looms to see if they can help with your problem: http://www.autosparks.co.uk/

This rear harness is very simple, and you could make one very easily yourself. It only feeds the rear lighting and direction indicators. It's probably quicker to make than do the chasing around to try and find a replacement

Robert,
I agree with Andrew's suggestion. Paul Vermont from www.vinwire.com.au
has made dozens of MGA harness to original specification and would be quite happy to make the rear harness only.

What kind is your car there are 3 rear harness types. 1500,1600 and 1600MK11. I have old versions of each and can supply pictures. Dominic is right they would be easy to duplicate.
R J Brown

Mine is a 1600. Thanks! I know I could make one, and will do so if necessary, but I can't duplicate the woven covering.

Robert,
Talk to Cecilia Bruce at Scarborough Faire. I believe she would sell you a rear harness.
Cheers.

Thanks G.T.,

I already did so....one of first calls actually. not unlike Moss and other suppliers, her harness is a complete design and she doesn't carry the seperate rear harness as original. She is however, working on something that may work. She's great!!!! Have her on speed dial. I did pop an email off to Paul Vermont. Waiting to hear back from him. Cheers!

Just a thought, if the rear section from an early B is available, that would do with minimal modification

Robert. Can you determine who made your existing wiring harness? That would seem to be the best company to talk to about a rear harness.

Have you spoken with British Wiring or have you just looked at their website. I seem to remember, many years ago, that they would make up custom harness by special order. Do not know if they still have this service available or not, but it would be worth knowing.

Various custom automobiles, "Hot Rods" are one example, have someone make up custom wiring harnesses. Perhaps it would be possible to have a rear harness custom made by some company which does not specialize in Brit cars?

Robert, Paul from Vintage Wiring is an MGA and Magnette owner and he produces harnesses to original specification, including the cotton braiding (woven covering)

Thanks Guys!

Yes, Vincent emailed stating he could make the rear "crossover" harness to original specs for $30.00 plus $25.00 shipping. Sounds very reasonable to me. Thanks again for the lead. Cheers!
Robert Maupin

Robert,

Which company does Vincent belong to?

Mick
M F Anderson

Sorry,

Not Vincent....he was another vendor trying to help out. Paul Vermont from British Wiring is the person who came through with the sub-harness. Cheers!
