MG MGA - replacement instrument lamps
In searching the archives (and the MGA Guru site)for an aftermarket part number for instrument lamps, the only number I found is 1815. However, this has a bayonet base. Does anyone have an aftermarket replacement number for the screw base lamps? (car is a 1958 MGA roadster) One additional question: I purchased the Moss map light assembly, but it didn't come with mounting screws and nuts. Is there a comparably-sized chromed screw available elsewhere in the Moss catalog I can use? Thanks in advance, John

JP, I would go down to your local hardware store that has No. 10 stainless phillips oval head machine screws and get two, then just polish them and they look just like chrome and much cheaper. Have a good day! John

The equivalent screw base bulb is a 1487. For chrome screws you could try your local auto parts store. They usually have a rack with various size chrome trim screws. They will be sheet metal screws, but you can get the flat spring steel nuts designed for sheet metal screws.

You can get the 1487 bulbs at Radio Shack. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102812&cp=&sr=1&origkw=1487&kw=1487&parentPage=search

Those Radio Shack bulbs are a little underpowered. 200ma (1/5 amp) at 14 volts is only 2.8 watts. The MGA dash lamps should be 4 watts for four (standard) instrument lighting and three indicator lamps. Current draw should be closer to 300 ma.

I agree that brighter might be better, but the workshop manual says 2.2 watts.

Thanks for the replies on both questions. (One of my burned-out original Lucas lamps is, indeed, stamped "2.2W". John
