MG MGA - retire
Wow, if only I were retired to enjoy the brutal winters of Santa Barbara. 78 degrees today, stunning clarity, blue skies, and me working... life is not fair. But I am thankful for the job in light of the gloom that abounds. |

Keep your job and be happy, I've been in electronics for 40 years, no work anywhere. I commute 58 miles each way to drive a transit bus in North Tahoe to make the mortgage! I do get to drive my MGA to work occasionally, but driving home at 9:30pm with the temp at Truckee around 15 F is quite the challenge! My windows went missing from a parking lot one day about 10 years ago, haven't been much of a priority until now, so I grin and bear it. Problem is that when I get home it takes me about 20 minutes to thaw enough to loose the grin! Russ |

Truckee you are a brave soul. Home of an E Clampus Vitus Chapter too. Enjoy! |

You're bragging now David, it was one of those numbers here this morning when I came to work, 7 or 8 degrees I think just like Santa Barbara, not! |
Bill Young |
I don't mean to brag, Bill but winter is incredible in SB. uh-oh looks like it might rain... we are in a pretty serious drought. Think Rain! |
David Holmes |
Isn't SB always in a drought? I took this picture in 1989: http://mgaguru.com/tales/pic89b/6-23b.jpg |

Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink... The west coast has had a water shortage for as long as I can remember. I found that it is still normal to ask for water in restaurants in Monterrey, Fort Bragg, and Eureka on my last run to the coast (two weeks ago). There is no snow on the ground in Tahoe, expect some this weekend, lots to go to make up what we have missed. That means little snow melt to rivers and wells downhill, including my well in Colfax. On the other hand, my wife and I took Maggi (MGA) to Grass Valley yesterday for a few hours on the back roads in the sun and wind, shirtsleeve weather, drive in at the "Big A" for a burger and shake, a very refreshing cruise! Maggi ran like a champ! Enjoy 'em when you can!! Russ |

OK,picked up recently which has a special resonance for us layabouts, sorry, retirees Old dear says to her husband "What are you going to do today?" "Nothing" he says. Wife says "You did that yesterday". Old boy says "I ain't finished yet". |

The hard top minus windows makes for more wind than without it! When I had windows, I could drive the car in very cold weather and be comfortable. Anyone have plans on how to make windows? Times is tight, new windows out of the question, we have save up to drive the old rat once in a while! (Looks like I need to take this picture to Photo Shop, no time now though.) Russ ![]() |

Looks good Russ. No Barney, the droughts here are cyclical. Just when the drought of the late eighties was peaking the city built a water desalinization plant that cost us taxpayers dearly. In 1992 or 93 just as it went online we had the wettest winter on record. Filled up Lake Cachuma (your photo) and spilled over Bradbury dam. (nature has a sense of humor)desal was shut down and sold to the Saudis. |

No Gerry, and I didn't know my name was unusual either. I used to get phone calls for another David Holmes in Santa Barbara all the time. Go figure. |

Russ I have a couple of spare sets of A side curtains, old and not in the best of condition. Contact me off line and let's see if we can solve your problem quickly. I will be back home Monday evening and can check out the details on the side curtains then. Larry 58 A with Parish Hardtop |
