MG MGA - Retractable Seat Belt Fitting

Seen many comments on the arrangement for inertia belts and most seem to be in the boot. I designed and had this fitted about 9 yrs ago and it works well, disconnects quickly and is extremely strong.
The two floor points are the lap belt positions with one fitted witha strong quick disconnect ss hook and eye ... marine grade ) and the mechanisms fit behind the seats and just under the bodywork. The mechanism sits on a bracket with bolts penetrating the bulkhead and attached to another bracket in the boot . Latter is fixed to bodywork at two points. see pics. Clears hood etc etc.

On my coupe I attached the inertia belt to the rear wheel arch in the exact same place as the static 3 piece belts as recommended by Todd Clarke. They work very well and let you move about but catch immediately on any sudden movement.

Andy.....I thought about that position but was keen to get the line of the belt as high as possible without going on top of the body work ( saw a nightmare like that recently !!)..it still is relatively low compared to most modern cars and would not do my collar bone too much good if in sudden stop ..but hopefully I would not bounce off the windscreen ...

Has anyone tried moss 222-006 belt with the reel mounted to the Clarke shoulder attachment?

It appears to have clearance with the stowed top but I've not tried it.

I have the non-retractable version mounted with hooks at the floor and the Clarke top attachment.

Neil, you're probably right about the potential collar bone damage but it's better than the windshield alternative. It's very close to the inertia belt fitment in my MGB, where the belt rests on your shoulder and top of the seat. I once saw a Coupe where they fitted a mount to the pillar behind the door post so it was more like a standard seat belt fitting. Maybe when the cars finished I canthink about some modifications.

Thanks Andy

Andy..I also bought the thick seat belt 'cushions' you get get from Moss and have these around the belt at the contact area with the collar bone....reassures me but probably thats all it achieves...
