MG MGA - Rocker panel detail
Last stretch of the rocker repair. I know there is a flange at the front which is riveted to the A pillar. Does anyone have a picture of the front end of a new rocker, or of the installed joint? I need to know how this wraps around the outside of the pillar. Thanks Art |

Or maybe a little lighter.

Thanks Barney. Do I plug weld the rocker flanges to the sill plate, top and bottom? (don't have a spot welder) |
Art Pearse |
Yes. With no spot welder plug welding works well. Top flange gets covered with door seal. Bottom flange gets covered with lower body trim strip. For 20 years mine were pop riveted in place, and no one noticed. |

Plug weld about every 4" or 5" or so - don't need a hundred of them along that seam. Also - you are joining four layers of metal there, and the door trim still has to fit, so make sure everything is ground flat and clamped together well, etc. (the second time I did this) I drilled holes and used sheet metal screws to clamp it all together, removing the screws as I worked down the line doing the welds, and clamping either side of the hole being welded with vise grips. Don't weld you vise grips to the car, however. JIM in NH |

Jim - 4 layers? there is the sill plate, the rocker flange and the flange of the bit covering the frame. that's 3 layers. what is the 4th? Art |

Only three layers on top, and two layers at bottom. The flanges of the box panel stop before the flanges of the rocker panel. |

my bad - 3 not 4. got carried away. Pics of your progress please! JIM in NH |
