MG MGA - Seat frames needed
58 Roadster. The seats look like they were salvaged from the Titanic. The frame bottoms are past all hope. The backs are pretty good. I've got new runners coming. Has anyone got decent bases (or complete seats) for sale? Thanks. Mitch |

Steve. Ding ding. Much better than mine, my bases are really gone. I have good backs, sliders coming from Moss. How much? Mitch at mitchellandrus dot com. Thanks. |

Can you describe "gone" in more detail? The channel sections are commonly bent and cracked; Todd Clarke and others sell repair sections. Mine were pretty thoroughly trashed... My father had welded in 1/4" thick steel strap in place of the channels, and there were holes blown in the tubing at the joints. I managed to weld all the holes shut and replace the missing channel sections, so they can be pretty far gone and still salvageable. -Del |

Del, Gone. Gone as in, rusting away in a wet basement for 40 years, gone. Holes in the tubes the size of dimes, many, many of them. So gone that welding burns away the material that I need to weld to. Reproducing these in new tube stock would take less time. So will finding replacement originals. The seats that should be in the car had been stolen from the shop that had it when the resto stalled 15 years ago. I only have these seats because they were purchased by the PO last year on Ebay. He paid $150.00 for them and paid too much. Fortunately, the backrests are in pretty good shape, so now I only need the bottoms. ... |

Mitch I sent you an email...I have another set that might work for you...I sent a picture with it. Let me know if you get the email. |

Ouch. Before repairing mine I gave consideration to attempting to fabricate new ones out of a higher alloy of steel, which wouldn't do anything to prevent rust, but would help prevent a lot of the breakage that happens. Decided in the end that it probably wasn't worth the effort, given that my main objective was to justify the purchase of a tubing bender. 8^) -Del |

Del.... Any excuse to buy a new tool works for me. If it plugs in... all's the better. .... |
