MG MGA - Send Me Your Colors
With all the recent discussion on paint colors, I am finally getting motivated to post a few more web pages on MGA paint colors. I already have pages for Two-Tone and Stripes, but more pictures would be welcome. More important will be pictures of MGA with original colors, as I want to document every original paint color combination ever used on MGA (and the few existing web sites have never been completed with all colors). I will also be making pages for non-original colors (popular or otherwise), poison colors, metallic paints, and perhaps anything else you may like to throw at me. You don't have to post dozens (or hundreds) of pictures on this forum. It would be a bit more convenient for me if you send them directly to my personal email address, barneymg@mgaguru.com You can also send larger photos that way. Thanks in advance, and let the photos roll. |

Barney, when you say "original colors" do you mean cars repainted in their original color, or cars with their original factory paint? (Or both... ?) |
David Breneman |
That would mean original factory color, as near as anyone can tell in reproduction. I don't expect anyone to buff out a 50-57 year old car with original paint and try to convince the world that it has never faded. This project is going very well, just two days on. At least a dozen people have sent messages, some with multiple photos, nearly 50 new photos already to go with a couple dozen earlier ones (but so far only a good start). You can see the pages building here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt140.htm http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt142.htm http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt150.htm I have been getting lots of non-original repaint colors, which is fine, but I need more pictures of cars in original factory colors (including CKD cars). |
Barney Gaylord |
Barney, I'm assuming that by now you have enough examples of the common colours such as chariot red and do not need any more. |
J H Cole |
Rash assumption. I do need pictures of all of the original colors on all of the different MGA models. So far I have very few of those. I'm beginning to think that most MGA have been repainted different colors leaving very few in original colors. You can look here to see what I currently have, and then help me fill in the blanks. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt140.htm I have long since had links to the www.mgaregister.nl web site. Their "original colors" pages are less than 50% complete and have not changed much for many years. That's the primary reason why I am working on this project, in hopes that I can do a better job of it. I don't want to pirate pictures from other web sites. |

OK, I'll dig out a decent picture of my car. It is, as close as humanly possible, painted in its original Glacier Blue. The body shop took pieces that had been underneath body parts that hadn't been disturbed since it left the factory (ie, tail light plinths) and had them scanned to match the color. (Example posted below.)

With the exception of a few early MGA's and Twin Cams, all roadsters sold in Oz were assembled and painted here. Except for black they were Australian colours and differed from their Abingdon counterparts. |

Barney, Chariot red, everything else red except grey carpets.

B Walker, -- What color seats with your Mineral Blue Coupe? Got a picture of the interior? Cam, -- What color dash with your Black/Red roadster? Black or Red dash? Got a picture of the interior? |
Barney Gaylord |
Hi Barney - emailing you a couple of interior shots - cheers Cam |
Cam Cunningham |
Cam - What color hood did your car come with? Some of the Black/Red color scheme cars had Ice Blue. |
David Breneman |
According to the Heritage Certificate it was grey - and that is what it is fitted with now - but not original and seldom used! |
Cam Cunningham |
What? A week with no more response? Surely lots more people have pictures of their MGA. It doesn't need to be a show car; I only want the color references. I'm trying to fill in the blanks here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt140.htm http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt142.htm http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/paint/pt150.htm |
Barney Gaylord |
That's the problem, Barney...not a lot of *original* paint schemes or interiors around anymore. |

A few weeks into this project we are doing fairly well. I have almost half of the factory original color and model permutations, and more than half of the (known) Australian colors. OEW 1500 Roadster with Red trim and seats. It's an original colour scheme, but the seats have been replaced with deluxe ones. Very comfortable! http://www.lamp-post-waste.freeserve.co.uk/mga-front.jpg http://www.lamp-post-waste.freeserve.co.uk/mga-rear.jpg |

Mine is a Glacier Blue roadster with black and gray seats. If the weather clears I'll get some pictures - if it doesn't I'll dig out some ones I took after the restoration. |

Hello Barney, it's not my car, but it was offered on ebay ! ![]() |
Giovanni Delicio |
Is that supposed to be two-tone blue with green interior? Yuk! I put that in Poison Colors. Do you know if it ever got a bid? |
Barney Gaylord |
I think that's black with green interior and was an original combination. It looks to me like the blue tint is sky reflection. There was a piece of green vinyl very much like that inside my red seats filling out a defect. Clausager suggests that the fascia might have been painted green with this combination and that the hood should be black or ice blue. |
John DeWolf |
Oh? Okay, I can dig it, not poison. I rather like black with green interior. It did look very odd with the blue front end. |

About 10 days with not much response here. I've chiseled a few more colors off the list, but it's getting tough going now. One more try. We finally had a day decent enough to take the car out of the garage. My pictures (glacier blue w/ black/gray) are on the way. |
