MG MGA - Shipping to France

Gentalmen, I have a set of Weathersheild Side Screens up for sale on Ebay and a person in France has asked me if I can send them there? I said yes I think so. Does any one have a shipper in mind to send these from the USA to France and any idea of the cost? To ship these around the US would cost about $20 to 30 dollars. Thank you in advance for your help.

Check your local post office. I send stuff to Europe fairly often. UPS is not the way to go. They place many uneeded charges on the freight, I just shipped a front valance (MGA) to Scotland for $50.00.

Watch out for package size needed to ship side screens. I ran into this when trying to ship side screens to Canada a couple of weeks ago. It was going to cost close to $90 to ship them because of the size of the box. I was able to ship via UPS for around $30 and they provided tracking, took care of all the customs stuff as well.

Slightly off topic Don but although UPS to Canada may have provided a reasonable shipping charge, I suspect your customer won't be so happy a few weeks from now when he recieves a HUGE bill from UPS for customs brokerage. (DAMHIKT)

I have sent many things overseas, and have found the USPS to be the most reasonable. I usually mark the import documents as "used ...." whatever it is. I have never had a problem.

UPS is TERRIBLE for customs fees - I always try and get sellers to avoid using them when buying from the USA. USPS comes out cheaper, and is (even with priority) normally here inside a week. The drawback is that when it's a larger package, it very often ends up being handled by their parcel contractor in the receiving country, and that is often (you guessed it) either DHL or one of their equivalents, so the handling charges reappear.

I don't like UPS generally because of the recurring references in the German press about links to the a certain cult church where lots of (mostly bad but famous) movie stars do their thing.

You are correct about the customs's fees for the side screens ($48) that the buyer had to pay. It was still cheaper than the Post Office because of the size the package pushed the package into a higher price category.

Best advice: pack it up and take it to the Post Office and get the actual charges and do the same with UPS. Then you will know.
