MG MGA - Shipping Wings

I've just sold a couple or rear wings on Ebay and to my horror someone from the south of France has bought them even though I indicated they were best collected.

I don't really want to disappoint the buyer so has anyone had experience of sending big items like this abroad?

I've just had a quote from UPS of £317 for the two!!

I use Interparcel and have been very pleased with their prices. They offer a variety of couriers depending on your needs: http://www.interparcel.com/

Thanks Steve I'll send them an e-mail. I didn't know they sent stuff overseas.........................Mike

MJ even if not stated I think that postage rates given on Ebay are accepted as applying to the UK only. I would email the buyer giving the cost to France and ask him if he prefers this to collection.

I tried Interparcel but they didn't want to know. I don't know what it was that put them off because I only gave weight and dimensions plus destination.
I've tried a place called Shiply which is an agent for a group of private Couriers and their cheapest is £104.

John, I didn't give any postage rates in the Ad. I said collection preferred but I didn't object to someone organizing their own Courier.

I think the buyer's english may be as good as my french as I've not heard from him so far. I think I may have lost this one...................Mike

Did you get a resolution?

I have just had much the same despite entering the words 'overseas bidders please contact me for postage rates before bidding'. The winner is from Finland and he did not contact me first! He could be in for bit of a surprise with the cost.

There will be people from both France and Finland going to MG Live next weekend, now if only there was a way……...

Steve, It turned out the buyer in Nice couldn't speak English and I had no replies to e-mails until I said I was about to open a case in the Ebay 'Resolution Centre' to get back my fees. Then I had an e-mail from an english friend of his saying he would arrange for them to be picked up. They have now been paid for but not yet collected.
Earlier I had found a courier from the internet site 'Shiply', basically a man in a van, who said he would get them there for £105.
I suppose the extra time the parts are hanging around before being picked up by an overseas bidder is compensated by the higher price they go for in the auction.

Now the two doors I've just sold have been bought by someone in Ireland!!.....................Mike

It's never straight forward is it Mike. I sometimes baulk at the apparent high postage prices some people put against their auction goods, but having trooped across the fields to my local post office goodness knows how many times to get postage prices for foreign buyers and the like, I am beginning to understand.
