MG MGA - Side curtain clip - Aussie innovation
| I am not sure if this innovation warrants inclusion in Barneys Tech files but it certainly was effective on a recent 1,000 km run with the hood up. To clip the top of the side screens to the windscreen frame and stop it flapping about, I used 1 3/4" (41 mm) fold back clips - covered the side that clips on to the windscreen frame with 4 layers of fabric tape to prevent it scratching, left the side that slides into the frame groove as is - just remember to unclip when you get out - it doesn't damage anything but the loud clack when you forget gives you a fright! | Mike, My 1600 roadster has similar-looking side screens to yours (though covered in black vynil to match the hood) and they have flat "clips" rivetted inside the vertical front channel of the side screen frame which engages in the flat web at the rear of the windscreen frame as you close the doors and prevents the "gaping" you refer to. They have a hard rubber coating so as not to scratch the chrome. I always understood that these clips/keepers were an original standard feature of this type of side-screen. |

| Barry, Do you have a photo of these - I have heard of them but not seen them (my car is a '60 - 1600) Regards Mike |

| Mike, Todd Clarke (of Clarke Spares and Restorations, http://www.clarkespares.com/ , makes an accurate reproduction of this clip, along with the hard rubber sleeve, as original to the later 1600s and the MK II. It's illustrated in his catalog, but not online. Another source seems to be Anglo Parts, and it's priced and illustrated in their online catalog ( http://www.anglodesign.be/images_ap/MGA_catalogue.pdf ). Ken |

| Mike Sorry, do not have the photo facilities! Best if you could sight the actual things but otherwise I could try to send you an actual-size drawing? |
