MG MGA - Side Curtain Perspex
Does anyone know how the front piece of Perspex was held in place on the 1600 series side curtains? I know that there is a thin piece of metal at the trailing edge that holds the rear of the Perspex, however I nned to know how the rest was originally held in place. I am re-doing a set of cloth covered side curtains that a previous owner took apart. I have another set that a different previous owner put together with duct tape. (yuck!) Is the Perspex held in place by the window slide chanel used for the rear sliding window? Thanks, Jim '61 MGA 1600 MK1 |

Yes, it's held in place by the slide channel. Also, I don't think it's perspex. Mine's more like a thin isinglass, thinner than the sliding perspex rear panel. |

The channels and perspex are all available from Todd Clarke. |

Originally the front (fixed) part was thin celluloid (used to go yellow and brittle), now there is a plastic sheet which looks identical but is far more durable. The rear sliding part was perspex with a small rectangular "grip" glued (acetone?) to the surface (inside and outside as I recall). |

It's a great shame that there is not an exchange service to have these repaired. I have two sets which need repair. I purchased the repair kit from moss, but what they don't tell you is that their kit is to repair their own brand of side screens not the originals. Cheers Mark |

Mark, Todd Clarke has all the right bits to repair. You might have to stitch your own pvc cover though. |
