MG MGA - Side Curtains

Hello, I am in process of restoring original side curtains on a 1960 MGA. I find it hard to find the right thickness of material needed to complete the front very thin piece of Plexiglass, .o3o The origional material was called Cobex This stuff no longer exist. What is being used in its place? How do you get it installed without its breaking? Thanks for your help. Neal Turner

Neal, Todd Clarke sells the exact stuff..even has the original imprint in the material. You will find it quite flexible, as you have to bend it to slot in.

Neal, I guess you are talking about the fabric covered screens which I believe had the very thin 'perspex' for the front section, rather than the aluminium screens. I think Barney's article is about the Al screens. I've been trawling the archives (well worth a look) in readiness for my job and it appears that the original thin material turned yellow over time so perhaps it's for the best that it is not being manufactured now. There seems to be a lot of 1mm clear acrylic sheet around but maybe this is too thick? However, there are some alarming reports of this thin section being sucked out by overtaking traffic when on the road so maybe it needs to be a bit thicker if there's room to fit it in? There is a special (aftermarket?)clip to be fixed on the outside front to prevent suckout, sold by Todd Clarke. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a lot of information around on the original fabric covered screens. Try contacting TC, he is very helpful..................Mike

I went to my local sign maker and they had a small piece of 1mm sheet that they let me have for a nominal fee. It was pretty simple to cut and replace the old pieces and get a really tight fit. You have to bend quite a bit, but there is no way it could be sucked out by traffic!

I am in the market for a rebuildable set of the fabric covered sliding sidescreens for my 1960 1600. If anyone has a set they can part with reasonably, I will appreciate an e-mail.

BTW, my (car's) body is nearing completion over at the body shop. The car will be Dove Gray, red interior, 60 spoke wire wheels. I am looking forward to finishing it at last.
