MG MGA - Sill Trim

I would like to fit a chrome strip to cover and protect the fastenings along the lower edge of the body below the doors. I am advised that the aluminium replacements now available (if you can get them) are likely to cause more corrosion than they would protect. I am seeking some good ideas for a replacement trim for this finishing touch

Very early 1500 cars did not have the trim piece. All later cars did, and it was always the same part, always aluminum and always painted. Use a good zinc-chromate or epoxy primer, then paint body color. I have never seen any corrosion in this area that I could attributed to galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals.

If you are having trouble getting these try Sportscar Metalworks in Iver,Bucks. I got a pair and they are excellent. Mike

I got mine from moss and had them powder coated gloss black to protect from chipping.

We have had bare alloy ones on our car for 12 years, no problems yet.

Where exactly do these trims go?

For point of reference...The original sill trim pieces were steel - never aluminum. I bought a BMC set many years ago and still have them unmounted. They mount with square head bolts that slide into the C - shaped channel.

Is it necessary to remove a small section of the back of the C section where they fit over the hex headed screws that attach the fenders and sills to the inner body shell. I seem to remember that that the original ones that I removed had some areas removed where it fitted over these screw heads. I'll be fitting mine in the very near future.

I have often wondered if the chrome strip from the front wing of the MGB would fit below the sill of the 'A'? but have never got round to trying one....JB
