MG MGA - Silverstone 2009

Great to see you at the weekend.

Trevor, an absolutely immaculate twin cam roadster (and an historic race twin cam too, lucky so and so!) Bruce, also a superb twin cam roadster, John and family, Robert and friends and finally (only just) Colin and his wife, a very nice 1500. Nice to put faces (and cars!!!) on names and what a great bunch!

Steve, where were you! I bought a Shelley jack in your memory!

Lindsay, we missed you too!

Someone (I don't know who) posted this on YouTube watched it three times looking for my car before realising I was there standing in front of it!

Gordon, I have some tool kit pictures from the pride of ownership/concours, but nothing to match yours!

Trevor, your twin cam would have won the concours, seriously.

Hi Neil
Very nice to meet you too, and all the others. I agree totally re Roger's immaculate Twin Cam (believe that was his name, not Trevor). Could be wrong!
Sorry to have missed you Sunday but decided to take advantage of the nice weather for an early run home south, after the horrible run up early Saturday morning.
Hope your tent did not float Saturday night!
The YouTube video was from Mark Hester, a keen Australian gent who keeps lots of records of Twin Cams and had posted the video also on the Twin Cam Yahoo site.
Regards for now
Hope to meet again soon.

Apologies Roger!!! I am sorry, but I am terrible with names.
Neil McGurk

Sorry not to see you Neil but didn't want to miss any of the racing and by the time the pre-lunch race had finished and we'd grabbed something to eat it was getting a bit late to meet you. A bit dissapointed that there was no MGA racing on the Saturday, T Types too were sadly missed, but the noise and smell of the vintage stuff made up for it and what about those Healeys! Have they changed the the way the races are run, I'm sure I saw MGAs and T Types on the Saturday 2 years ago.
Lynda and I will be at the MGA day at Charlecote Park on 2nd August so maybe see you there if you are going.
Lindsay Sampford

Yes it was I Neil.

I'm no camera man that's for sure, but it just gives others a taster of what the event was like.

14 Twin Cam including the racers was my count.

Anyone Take Twin Cam or Deluxe photos from Friday or Saturday?

Cheers
Mark.
Mark Hester

Well done Mark! We were standing a few yards apart when you took the video, pity. Did you see Bruce's and Rogers' cars on the Saturday?

Lindsay, good to know you were there, anyway! There was some great racing on the Sunday.
Neil McGurk

Hi Neil forget the cars show me the tool kits lol

Neil

I should have said that I had been indisposed for 3 weeks so could not make the event.

Trying to identify the jacks in your pictures; the first one may be the correct LJ23, bit difficult to see as picture is a bit dark. Second picture efinitely has the wrong jack, not MGA, looks like the LJ263 Tangye Shelley for the Land Rover.

See my database: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/shelley_jacks.htm

Cheers

Yes, The second picture was a guy entering his first concours. The effort he put in was tremendous, but there were a few things... the jack clearly one.

Concours is becoming less and less popular, this guy being the only one in the fixed head class. Obviously then, entries and entrants should be encouraged. So the super judges gave him lots of encouragement, not. The first comment was that he should be in pride of ownership because he had a reproduction front bumper! Followed by a comment that he would probably get moved into another class because there were no other entrants!

Well done MG Car Club.

Anyway, rant over, and as I mentioned earlier, Steve, I got a nice MGA jack myself. Together with a very good used ignition switch, panel light switch and feeler gauges (not marked King Dick) all for eighty quid. The jack is in absolutely perfect condition, even freshly oiled and painted (although not to show standard!)

Seen here complete with its' non-original handle. I believe the handle in front is an original (from the other jack). I apologise in advance for my measly jack collection, just a humble offering in your greatness!!!!

Neil

Nice collection. 2 correct late MGA LJ255 jacks; a Morris Minor GPO Van LJ31; I think that is a Bantam at the back right; the other 2 at the rear centre and right look like LJ31s, although they seem slightly taller - can you confirm. No idea on the 2 at the back left.

Well done Steve!

It's an LJ32 behind the 31 (about an inch taller) and an LJ25C at the back (an inch taller again). The jack on the right is a Lake & Elliot screw type (similar to bantam and LJ11) and the big one on the left is a 4 ton hydraulic Lake and Elliot. I like that one because it has the operating instructions stamped on a brass plate on the handle. It's useful for my little Cabstar car transporter.

So did I get a bargain on the LJ255?
