Good to meet you briefly before you went for your Castrol R overdose. Mine was 56 seconds in (PSJ 903). There was an overflow MGA park with another 11 or so cars. I counted just under 50 cars, with the other occasional one scattered around.

One of the race cars took a nasty prang.

Nice also to meet Colin and Theresa Davy. Sorry I missed John Bray, but thanks for the note in the car.

That's a bit of a mess Steve. Amazing that the wheel is still in roughly the right place, although the damper looks like it has been twisted round. According to the programme it was driven by Spencer McCarthy, let's hope he came out of it OK.
Nothing nasty happened at Woodcote, but we did see some 'moments' and the gravel trap saved a ZR driver from what could have been a bad shunt into the fencing. It was quite amazing to see how quickly and safely it soaked up the speed of the car, but I suppose it is designed to cope with something a bit faster that an MG ZR! Having said that, I was surprised at the way the ZRs out-performed and out-handled Fs, and the way the Metros walked all over the Bs and Midgets in their race was a bit of an eye-opener!
Some really good racing, the sound of those big V8s charging up Pits Straight and the smell of 'R' (a lot of it about this year, is it cheaper than mineral oil now?) made it a thoroughly enjoyable day, but where were all the MGAs, well down on 2009.

I arrived late so had to park elsewhere, headed straight for the beer tent but alas to late to meet up.

Spencer McCarthy didn't race that particular MGA, it was another driver (Peter ?) at the time of the incident. A shame as the car was one of Roy McCarthy's who unfortunately passed away last year and was in the process of being sold.

Great finish in the MGA Thoroughbred Race with the TR just edging out the Jaguar on the last lap.
John Bray

I went to the scrutineers area to see them looking at the crashed car. They said it was a female driver. The front left chassis was badly bent, along with all the suspension et al. the picture does not quite show the severity of the impact.

We spent an hour in the stand at Woodcote. As you say, Lindsay, quite exciting.

One dealer was selling a droopy snout Shelley LJ225, claiming it to be for the MGA. I put him right and immediately became quite unpopular. He sold it; it was priced at £100. Another was selling a replica Midge mascot for about £150. A few years ago mine cost me £12 for the casting, plus chroming. I have even seen these replicas being sold for £450, the price of the genuine article. Some punters are quite gullible when it comes to parting with their money.

Close up of the damaged area.

Lindsay, with MGA's fetching such strong money now (£30k)they have become to expensive to race.

Cheap doner sports cars for motor racing these days are usually Japenese based MX5 and MR2's which are the same price as MGA's 25 years ago.(<£1k)

Did anyone else see the MGA fitted with the Honda V-tech engine?
John Bray

John, I was really talking about the number of MGAs in the register parking, but come to think of it, there were fewer on the track than I remember in years gone by.
I too enjoyed the tussle between the 'D' type and the TR. The TR would gain ground round the Brooklands/Woodcote complex only to lose it once the 'D' type was on the straight. If the chequered flag had been a little further up the straight, the 'D' type would have won it!

Mines the red roadster 9 seconds in and the white car next to me left two nice paint chips in the middle of my driver's door!

Hi Mark , thanks for posting video ,great weekend, ours is the chariot red with the bonnet up with Theresa looking at the engine that had expired as we came over the bridge, we had a push to get parked , yet another rotor arm failed, we had driven up in 3hours 15 min from Branscombe , not bad for an oldy ! that is me not the car.

Hi Colin, very good time from Devon, did you use the motorways? Rason I ask is that I'm off down to South Molton on Sunday and undecided on route.

Regards...John
John Bray

Colin, get your car a red rotor arm, The Distributor Doctor supplies them now and I think they are available elsewhere. I got a red rotor from Jeff Schlemmer a couple of years ago and have had no problems with it. The new black rotor that it replaced only lasted a few months.
Lindsay Sampford

hi Lindsay,
We bought a Red Rotor from Acuspark ? i think , instant cure also a set of leads yet to be fitted as i like to do one change at a time ! to be sure that you have done the correct fix.had a great weekend & the weather and racing spot on .
