MG MGA - Snowed in

In a city that is paralyzed by four inches of snow, I just measured 13" on my deck. Needless to say, work on the car ('57 1500 frame off restoration) has been at a halt.

The worst part is that I haven't been able to get to the hot tub for two days! Took me two hours to dig it out today.

MGA Larry

Just a light dusting Larry. We've had 2 x 6" storms and my deck is waist high. They call it the "roof effect"
A Pearse

Well Larry, you can't expect to enjoy your hot tub when your patio furniture is laying on its side!
(My hot tub is behind the garage waiting for installation, and my wife doesn't want it. :(

Larry,

We did not get hit quite as hard in the Seattle area, so we did get to enjoy our hot tub last night. So far less than a foot of snow, but as you point out hills + wet snow + heavy traffic = paralysis in the Northwest.

Looks like we will have a white Christmas, the first I can recall in a long time.

BTW - I ran in to an Aussie a couple of days ago, this is the first snow he has ever experienced! After a couple weeks of this I would be quite happy to visit the land of Oz and a warm beach.

Happy Holidays

In SUNNY California we also have our problems, 1 inch of rain and a cold 50 degree. A few degrees more and I will be able to wear shorts and a T shirt again!!!!.
JEFF BECKER

It's like the Somme here. Welly boots and ankle deep in mud.

now Steve even I didn't think you were that old !!, Sopwith Camel perhaps?

Steve, that would explain your fuel consumption!

Jeff I'll trade you 16" of snow and -5 deg with a 30 mph wind for your 1' of rain and 50 deg. Between today and tomorrow were supposed to get another 10-12".
J Heisenfeldt

It is great weather down under - your all welcome!

my back deck this morning. I plowed the drive twice today and it is still snowing.

M Gannon

Got 4 inches of snow today to add to the !foot we got last week, and expect to get freeaing rain turning to snow tomorrow.
I'll take 1 inch of rain and 50' happily.
mike parker

Oh, stop complaining about the weather. At least your driveway doesn't look like this.

Andy Bounsall

Andy wins!

After two days of digging out the deck and driveway, my snow shovel broke just as we got another couple of inches.

MGA Larry

Wow! we're just happy not requiring sun screen today in Northern CA.
HO HO HO to you all!

Best always!

Larry, I cheated a bit. That photo was taken last March, near the end of the "record setting" snowiest winter. We've actually got about a foot of snow on the ground now.
Andy Bounsall

it cracks me up that you use 4 inches and paralyzed in the same sentence. In Minnesota we don't even start to get concerned until it hits twelve.
Dick Wallrich

I measured the snow in the backyard today, 26 inches! 9 of that the night before last. This is in a place where we usually deal with the snow by throwing a latte' at it and hope it goes away!

Happy Holidays,

Just so all you guys in the snow know the truth. They record the Rose Parade in Pasadena in June and play it on New Years Day just to sell Real Estate. Merry Christmas.
I got my tires wet this morning!

As a Minnesota native whose first car was an MGA, you're all making me nostalgic. Well, maybe not. As I recall, it didn't take more than a few degrees below freezing before I had to break out the crank. My wrist still hurts !

As has been pointed out here in the past, our little cars actually do pretty well in the snow. Mine never failed to start or went off the road. The heater actually works !

Got up to 48 today. Took the MK11 out for a drive. It may snow tomorrow but we got a Christmas drive in today! Unlike last year.

Are those chrome trim rings on your stock steel wheels? If so, mind sharing where to get them?
- Ian
I. L. Benson

Ian, I hope that RJ doesn't mind me answering. My trim rings are from Scarborough Faire in 1997. I added used TD emblems by drilling a hole in the hubcap.

C Schaefer

Damn, another boring sunny day........guess I'll take a lazy drive down the coast, top down and enjoy the fresh air..... ;-))

Peter Steyn

Great photo RJ.
Cam Cunningham

Ian
The trim rings are from Checker Auto, about $30 a set. The wheels are stock 1500 wheels painted black with stock MGA hub caps.
Thanks Cam. The car was driven home Christmas eve '07 with hopes of a Christmas drive. The weather guessers forecast a beautiful day. I foolishly thought the snow would stop and the sun would come out. This picture was later. I had to shovel the drive to get the car into the garage.

R J Brown

2nd photo even better RJ - before and after the dodgy weather forecast!! cheers Cam

15 below zero (Fahr.) here in Anchorage, with about a foot and a half of snow. Needless to say, the "A" is put away for the winter. Even my Jeep is begging to be let in the garage. The forecast is for 30 below tonight in my end of town...

k v morton

Hi Ken - OMG - how can you breathe at that temperature let alone think about driving? I thought it was cold here lately with temp down to minus 3 celsius (25F)tonight.
Cam Cunningham

Cam,

The only thing that gets driven from October to April is the Jeep. Breathing doesn't get too painful until about 40 below, and we never see that temperature as far south as Anchorage, about 61 degrees north.

thank You Mr. Schaefer & Mr. Brown.
