MG MGA - Speedo re calibration uk?


Who do people recommend to re calibrate the speedo in UK please?

And what have people paid for this service recently?

I have used Speedy Cables in the past. They charge £65 +p&p + vat: http://www.speedycables.com/calibration.html

Price seems to have gone up in the last few years. Back in 2007 I paid them £64 all in. They did a good job.

I sent my speedo to JDO Instruments in Keithley.
They did a superb job and the speedo now reads absolutely spot on, I have checked it with my sat nav and it matches perfectly.

I just had to zero my MGAs speedo and drive over 10 miles and record the mileage, then do the same in my modern car. (no jacking up of the wheels and measuring the propshaft and wheel revolutions)

I sent him the readings with the speedo and he returned it to me in about a week. He also changed the main beam jewel for a blue one ( not original for a 1600 but I prefer blue to red)

I think it cost me £120, but now at least I now have an idea when I need to fill the tank.

Before the recalibration the odometer used to under read by about 25% and this combined with my over reading fuel gauge made it a nightmare to travel any long distances.

In light of the detail Colyn has given I would add that I followed Speedy Cable's instructions and my speedo came back spot on also. It reads exactly the same as my sat nav. £70 is better than £120 + 20 miles of petrol!

Must admit it wasn't the least expensive option at the time but it was the quickest at the time.
I only had 2 weeks to get the job done before I went off on a 10 day trip to the Alps and I just had no time to waste.
I really must retire!
