MG MGA - Speedometer model

Does anyone know what the correct serial number should be for the speedo on my 1600. Mine is SN 6161/06 1440 but I think it is the wrong one.
Thanks
Graham V

SN6161/06 is correct for 1500(late)/1600/Twin Cam 4.3:1 rear axle
(could also be a SN6104/06)

The change from 6104/xx to 6161/xx is a very small change in internal gearing. It was a running change that took place in Sept of 1958. So for a 1600, it seems that the 6161/06 would be correct for a 4.3 rear end in a 1600. Alternatively the 6161/08 could also be correct, but it is more accurate somehow and was for police use.

All of this info is from "Original MGA" by Clausager.

Hadn't looked recently, but think I need to keep my copy in the safe. Just looked on Amazon, list price $26.95, one used copy available for $410.91.

Ouch. That must mean that the info I offered from that book must be worth more that 15 times what I thought it was. Lets see, 15 X 0 = ????

To all of you would-be thiefs, "I really don't have one of these expensive books, or anything that looks like it".

To my insurance agent, do I need a rider on my policy?

Isn't it odd that the value of a book about the MGA is rapidly approaching the value of a restorable car, or at least a parts car?

Supply and demand prices on Clausager at the moment. A few weeks back I saw one advertised for over $900!!

Speaking to Bob West, he intimated that they may do a reprint in the new year. That should bring it all back to sensibility.

Well Steve, now you've gone and done it! Now everybody who was planning to sell next year will have to do so this year to make their "required markup".
seriously, I hope it's true. There's no reason for that kind of price.
