MG MGA - Splash guards

Looks to me like the splash guards should go in after the fenders are bolted up? I'm starting on the rear fender and the guards are in place, but I can't reach some of the bolts! Plus the seal interference is inhibiting getting the fender placement easily.

The splash guard aft of the rear wheel does not have a seal and fits with plenty of clearance. It can be installed before the rear fender. In fact the bottom edge of the rear fender aft of the wheel attaches to the rear splash guard for structural support.

Other splash guards have rubber edge seals and should be installed after the fenders are securely attached.

Well, I tried fitting the fron splash guard in the rear LH fender.
I can get it to fit at the top, but at the bottom, there is a clash with the panel and the fender at the dog leg (funny, didnt do it before I put on the seal!)
So I cant close the fender to sill gap.
Does anyone have a useful picture of this area , or better still, a template for the metal guard? Mine were fabbed without the assistance of the old rotted ones, so I've got something wrong.
Also, how far down does the rubber reach?

I see the problem! I have formed the dog leg flange to be flush with the sill flange, and the splash guard has to go between them. Now where are my pliers.....
Art Pearse

Job done. I had made the fender dogleg flange and sill flange in the same plane, so in the end I had to trim the splash guard and the rubber at the bottom. Not perfect but I aint gonna re-do the dog leg!
