MG MGA - sports screen
hi all further to Steve's earlier posts on this subject this one may take someone's fancy http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MGA-Competition-Windscreen-Windshield-Auster-Chopped_W0QQitemZ330282332104QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330282332104&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 gordon |

Gordon I note the screen is 7.5 inches high. Mine is the 10 inch version. The normal screen is 13 inches. Difficult to say from the advert whether it is more raked or has cut down standard stanchions. I got the impression from Bob West that not many extra raked stanchions were produced originally. Mine is a recast from original raked stanchions from one of the early works competition cars. Bob offered me a 7.5 or 10 inch screen. I chose the 10 inch and I find it great for normal road use and it takes the windscreen wipers without modification. Wind blast to the top of the head is marginally more than the standard screen, but there seems to be less reverse flow around the back of the neck. Obviously, because of the extra rake, I cannot now use sidescreens without modification. Hood is useless as well. Bob told me that the 7.5 screen (advertised) will give considerably more face blast. I would suggest is more for the racer than the fast tourer. Goggles and helmet me thinks. Steve |

That is exactly the same screen I have had on my car for the last four years. I can personally attest to the fact that "face blast" is not bad at all, though you will lose your cap. I do wear goggles on highway out of fear of catching a stone in the eye. I just drove the car on an 1800 mile round trip to Watkins Glen, so can state that it is definitely usable.

Looks nice Chris. Is it a more raked stanchion on yours? What is the kit behind the centre of the screen? Steve |

Thanks, Steve. It does look slightly more raked to the naked eye, but i need to get out my standard windscreen and compare. I'm attaching a pic that i happen to have on file from when someone on the BBS previously asked about these screens. I think the kit you reference behind the screen is my goggles lying on the dash. I use a slightly larger rearview mirror from a big Healey which also may be part of what you're seeing. ![]() |

Hey Gordon, that would look just the business on your coupe! |
