MG MGA - Starter pull cable broken install instruction need

The pull cable to the starter switch broke. I ordered a replacement from Moss Motors. The old broken cable had an end piece the fit into the hole in the cable bracket. The new cable did not include this end piece and I can not locate the old one. Additionally I have been unable to locate any installation instructions. Any help will be appreciated.

Take your cable to your local bicycle shop and ask them if they can sell you a ferrule to fit your cable.

However, it’s probably not the end of the world if you can’t get a ferrule.

Make sure you lube your cable well before installation, which is the reversal of removal of the broken one.

I'm not sure if I fully understand the issue. My starter cable does not have a ferrule. It fits into a coupler and held in it by a screw. One end of the coupler attaches to the cable and the other to the switch shaft where it is also held in place by another screw. item number 3H950 in my Moss catalogue.

Steve, you say - "My starter cable does not have a ferrule. It fits into a coupler ---"
I think what Terry refers to as "an end piece" you call a "coupler". Same thing?

And maybe Terry has mislaid the 'end piece/ferrule/coupler'!

Terry, look for a new 'end piece/ferrule/coupler'! And let us know how you get on.
Barry.

Thanks for the ideas. I think he end piece I referred to is a ferrule. I will try to get one at a bike shop or just install the cable without it after lubing the cable.

Hi

If the cable inner broke, check the starter switch the coupler may still be attached there unless you removed it.

Pic of the coupler is attached: end of starter cable goes in one side and the other side is attached to the starter switch. You can solder the end of the starter cable to keep it from fraying, or some good epoxy cement may work as well. Coupler is available from most suppliers, runs about $10.

Mine is like Steve's and Nick's.
I have attached a picture - not as shiny as Nick's.

That coupler is item 161-500 in both the TD and the MGA Moss catalogs. $9.99.
