MG MGA - Stuck wheel hub
Hey fellas, I'm taking apart the front suspension on my Mk II. The driver's side wheel hub was no problem but the passenger side wheel hub will not budge. I've separated it from the brake disc and tried prying at it from behind as well as between the hub and disc, but no joy. I've attached a pic of the current state. Any ideas on how to free this one up? Thanks, Christopher ![]() |

Cut some wood (lumber) to fit between the end of the stub axle and just protrude past the end of the hub - screw on the spinner and use a BFH to tighten - undo add a steel washer(s) to take up any slack and repeat (and repeat...). Use some wood to protect your spinner when you belt it, better still use a dead blow plastic hammer (Harbour Freight). Regards Mike |

And if the wood splits or crushes, make a spacer out of metal pipe and washers etc. |

I use an old knock off with a hole drilled in the center large enough for the center screw of a large two jaw puller. Thread on the knock off, put on the puller and off it comes. You may find when you pull it that the inner wheel bearing may remain on the shaft and need to be pulled seperately. |

It is difficult to make out but have you split the brake caliper, Chris? |

Thanks for all the recommendations fellas. I have made enough progress with wood and an old knock-off to see that the rear bearing is apparently rusted to the stub axle. Odd because I never got any noise that I could hear from up there. It is slow going, but it *is* moving. Bob, I took the caliper apart since I'll be rebuilding these anyway. So right now it is in two pieces but not damaged. Regards, Christopher |
