MG MGA - Stupid Ebay Bidding
There are some stupid people bidding on Ebay. I have just seen a used SU Carburettor balancing kit currently enjoying bids at £28 ($40 ish). You can buy exactly the same item new from the MGOC on-line shop for £12.67 plus postage. Buyers do not do their research! Any others? Steve |

Some sellers don't do a lot of research either; a used broken chrome MG three piece badge at twice the cost of a new one: http://is.gd/cY6An Seems he has been surprised by the lack of takers and has reduced the price! Also has best offer. He's local to me so maybe I could pick it up for the price of a new one! Keep 'em coming! Neil |

Steve Dont know if it happened in this case, but it is common for the vendor to bid, in the hope of pushing up the price. |

Now, now. Don't be too harsh on the dummies! After all, these are the same idiots who will be willing to pay me double or triple what my car is worth! Frankly, I am encouraged. It seems there are plenty of suckers to go around, even in a down economy. :) --Jack |

If you didn't see the recent Judson Supercharger Boost gauge, it went for $850+. Now originality isone thing, but for a compound pressure gauge???? |

Two J bolts for a factory hardtop sold for over $180. Yikes! |

Spares that are no longer available new are one thing and the market place determines their value. My point was the stupid prices people will bid for items that are still available new. Steve |

I could not believe it - the final price was £49 !!!!! There were 12 bids with about 4 bidders so I guess there's a market out there albeit uninformed. |

I've just ordered a new SU Tuning kit. I'll use it this weekend and then flog it off for a healthy profit on eBay. I think with this one the words that tickled the bidders were "in correct pouch". Other key words that get bidders excited are "rare", "original" & "genuine". If you're selling stuff on eBay and can attract an initial flurry of bidders by stating at a very low price, these can often progress to an irrational bidding war. |

The Judson gauge is being remanufactured by Judson. The original was made by Marsh Instruments, and the vintage gauges made by them have the characteristic "M" tailed pointer. There were 10 0-300 psi 2.5 inch gauges with back fitting, flush mount on Ebay last week for $5.00 each. All that was needed for these was a compound mechanism. I am looking for a compound gauge to modify. |

Hi Mike The gauge I used as a basis to modify is the one here http://clancy.ch/Judson_Gauge_files/Media/002401_instruction/002401_instruction.jpg?disposition=download I had to adjust the internal mechanism to move the fulcrum point and recalibrate the gauge (the one and only use for the otherwise useless MityVac!) I can print and send you a Judson face on very stiff card, just say whether you want 15lb (then you don't need to mod the AutoMeter gauge) or 7lb (mod needed) Thanks for the tip about the Marshall finger. |

Dominic, Take a look at these two gauges. The first is a Marsh gauge, the second, the Judson. The cases and needles are identical: http://cgi.ebay.com/Marsh-2-1-4-Pressure-gauge-0-300-PSI-/350369055808?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Pneumatic_Hydraulic_Valves_Parts&hash=item51939f8440 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GAUGE-JUDSON-SUPERCHARGER-ORIGINAL-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem255aff84f9QQitemZ160440485113QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories |

Mike If you buy the cheap one, I'll take the second one off your hands for the $10 and the postage to Switzerland, and then I can finish my gauge with the correct needle. I might even get a second Autometer gauge and punt my existing gauge on ebay ![]() |

Dominic, I plan on purchasing a gauge. I will get one for you. I'll let you know. |
