MG MGA - Sun Visors
Were sun visors ever factory fitted, or even main dealer fitted, to roadster MGA's? If so, how and where were they attached? Also if so, is there currently a source? Just getting tired of squinting in low sunlight. Bruce. |

Nothing from the factory for roadsters, but for accessories see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/accessories/at117.htm Most of the smoked acrylic visors are not dark enough to do any good, so you would still be squinting. It makes a nice wind deflector for tall people. To use it as a serious sun visor you may have to make your own dark smoked plate, of maybe any color you like that is opaque. |

Internal sun-visors--- A fellow MG A Coupe' owner took a ride with me, the other afternoon when the sun was low in the sky. We discussed interior sun visors---I had made 2 padded safety visors hinged to the panel above the windscreen. These are excellent. In time, I found that the space between these 2 visors allows the sun to be a further nuicence when driving. So, filling the space in between the two, with a hinged third visor, makes sense. Use short brass hinges--squeeze them in a vyce to make them stiff to move-they will then hold their position. Cheers from sunny Australia. |

Thanks you two. For Barney, bearing in mind it is a roadster and not a coupe, how would the hinge pieces attach to the top of the windscreen surround? NI couldn't make out the detail in your Guru website link and it looks like a different model anyway. Presume it would be necessary to drill very carefully into the surround? A worrying thought! The stationary metal bracket has a narrow slot that fits over the thin edge of the windscreen frame, and a set screw (underneath or inside) to secure it in place. The set screw will make a small bite mark in the chrome. Over-tightening could break the bracket. Photo half way down the page shows the brackets. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/accessories/at117.htm |

Don't leave on when you put the hood up. The po of my car (who I know very well) advised me that it wasn't necessary and the hood would still go on ok. Revival came along and it was a bit drizzly so i put the hood up with the visors in position. On the M23 it rained very heavily. Inside the car it was like standing in a shower, except the water was cold. And there was nowhere to stop until we reached Pease Pottage services. I seems there is a very small gap because the visors prevent the top rail sitting hard down. It's amazing how much water can come through a small gap! |
