MG MGA - Superlite 6' rims
Has anyone used the 6" Superlite alloy wheels on their car? I was just wondering how the clearances were.

| Stock MGA fenders suit 5.5" wheels at best. Anything wider risks rubbing on the inner fenders or the outer fender lip, depending on offset. I'd go very carefully and do a trial fit with the 6" Superlites before buying. TR-6 rims (5.5") work quite well on the MGA, but obviously you would have to rework them to fit MG hub caps. Here is a 5.5" (Dunlop peg drive, but the width is the issue here)

Bill, I didn't know a peg drive hub/wheel was available for the MGA. Are these new after market parts, or....? Also, the wheels looked reversed, or have a different backset than stock? Thanks, George.

The wheels in Bill's photo look somewhat like the TR6 wheels on an MGA, which to my eye puts the tire too far to the outside. The backspace on my 4" wide MGA wheels measures 4". My 5 1/2" TR6 wheels measure 3 and 5/8" of backspace, so there would be additional 1 and 7/8" to the outside. I've been told that the 5 1/2" wide Panasports have something like a 1/2" more backspace than the stock MGA wheel, adding some of their width to the inside and some to the outside. Can anyone confirm that? Ken

The wheels on my coupe are Twin Cam - they fit the 4 wheel disc brake suspension. They have been widened (pretty much all to the outside) to 5.5" to allow fitting of modern rubber - 185 - 70 x 15, or now that that size is no longer common, 185 x 65 - 15.

PS - I also race on the same size of modified Twin Cam wheel.
