MG MGA - Things that go bump...(bumpers)

Hello,

Does anyone know whether the bumpers available through Moss differ from the current Victoria British Bumpers? The winter sale prices for VB's bumpers are quite a bit less than the the winter sale figures for Moss. Are they the same source?

I'll pay the premium if the part is superior. It doesn't make sense if they are the same.

Hi John, don't know about the differences between those two co's , but I do know that the ones from a co. called Anglo Parts are very good , they have the correct profile and the chrome, I am told, is done to a much higher European standard than the moss ones which are done in China etc. they were the same price as the moss ones when i did mine a couple of years ago

and on the car complete with a new version 2 grille from moss, very expensive but fitted very well, chrome on brass etc, the chrome itself was poor but it might have been worthwhile getting rechromed

Does Anglo parts have an outlet in USA?

Anybody know about the Moss vs VB parts?

John,

I don't know about bumpers in particular, but Moss has told me they supply many parts to their competitors.

I have used all three major US suppliers: Moss, V.B. and Scarborough Faire. Generally, for the most part I feel that Victoria British is a better deal. I think in some situations they buy from each other. It’s possible to get the same “miss-fitting” part from two of them. There are times when Brown & Gammons and the Owners’ Club in the UK have items that no-one in the States carries.

John, I can also reccomend the Anglo-Parts bumpers. I have had a new set on my MGA which is used daily (yes even today) and I think the fit and quality is very good. Not sure of where they actually come from but I bought mine 3 years ago now, treated the back with a waxoil type rustproofer and have not had any problem.

I know that once Moss has a part manufactured it seems to show up marketed by everyone. How can you find out if the bumpers in particular are the same item?

Thx,

John,

You can ask, but I wouldn't count on getting a straight answer. I once asked Victoria British to check the box and see if they could give me the factory part number, instead of their catalog number, for a transmission gear that changed mid-year on my TR. They told me that I could "submit a request for research...and it would take a couple of weeks." Their sales people don't always seem very knowledgeable. I ended up getting that part from Rimmer Brothers.

Well,

At least someone who has purchased VB bumpers could comment on their quality.

Anybody bought them?
