MG MGA - Throttle Cable Modification

This is a throttle cable modification I did a number of years ago and has served me well. You will all be aware of the swivelling outer cable stop that causes the cable to lie flat across the valve cover and eventually rubs a small groove in the riveted cover plate. Well, I converted the outer cable stop. I tapped a thread on it and attached it firmly to the bracket at a suitable angle so that the cable sits clear of the valve cover. It's been in place for at least 10 years without issue.

Neat Steve.
The way the throttle cable just lay across the rocker cover, ultimately wearing the "MG" nameplate and even the "Westlake" patent badges right through on MGAs always irritated me too. It always looked uncharacteristically sloppy for Enever et al.
My solution was to make a bracket out aluminium sheet a rubber grommet and a bit of black spray can black paint. Looking at my photos this was 6 years ago, and it's worked well ever since.

And both your and my solutions Steve are a whole lot better than what was suggested in one of the contemporary road tests of the (from memory) 1600 Mk II by one of the then respected American magazines (maybe "Car & Driver"?) where it was suggested the owner glue corks on to the top of the rocker cover to lift the cable clear! (I think it was the same road test that also suggested one could cut the lid off a drink can to store in the door pocket to use an ash tray! I'm serious; my how times have changed!!)

I took a slightly different approach to solving this niggling problem Steve.

I re-routed my throttle cable forwards so that it curved around the front of the rocker cover and avoided all contact with it.

I must admit that I had to change a couple of other things to get this to work😊!

A different problem I have had around these plates is the rivets leaking oil. Since fitting early B sealed crankcase set up and fitting a B rocker cover I glued these 2 plates to the cover hence no leaks.

Nice alternative. I see also, like me, you have made the vacuum flame trap more accessible and easier to fit. Mine is also attached to the rear stud that holds the brass firing order plaque, although mine sits slightly lower with the bracket 90 degrees out to yours.
