MG MGA - Tie rod ends

Has anyone bought tie rod ends or trunnion seals that last for more than a couple of months without the rubber cracking? Thanks Bob

B WALKER

That looks bad Bob. Mine have been on for the last 10 years and no sign of splitting - but I bought a new pair at a show 2 years ago ready to fit as and when needed. Will have to check them as they are still in their wrapping in the garage.

You can just replace the rubbers with new ones, no need to replace the TRE
dominic clancy

And due to changes in the UK MOT there are more and more rubber boots on the market here! So long as you know the size you need.

Mine perished immediately as well. I just ordered a new set from Moss - they say they have new ones that will last....I will go check them to see if they have the little "V" for Viton on them - I haven't unwrapped them yet.

How long have they had the "good" ones? I bought my front suspension kit at least a couple years ago.
Del Rawlins

Dunno, I bought my last set 5 years ago or maybe four.

Since then I complained on the board at MGE, and Kelvin said they should be good now - though I couldn't find the record of my purchase so they could send me new ones...one disadvantage of not buying directly from Moss (I had purchased through a reseller, so cannot be 100% sure it was actually a Moss part that I had received).

If you did purchase from Moss, and they failed, by all means contact them.

If they have not failed in two years, you are likely OK...mine failed without ever having been put into service - literally rotted off with the car on jackstands. I hope the new ones I got are better!

Most of my suspension parts are still in the packaging they came in, but I've been making progress again and if things continue to go well, I should be putting the suspension back together this year. My trunnion seals are the ones that are a couple years old; the tie rod ends my dad bought from SF sometime around 1990. I'll have to take a really close look at them before use, but the TRE boots are easy enough to change. I'm more worried about the trunnion seals. My sole reason for going with the poly bushes was to eliminate completely the same issue where they are concerned.

Jim have you unwrapped the ones from Moss and are they still intact? Thanks Bob
B WALKER

The ones I looked at seemed okay, condition wise. They feel kind of flimsy, but I don't have a frame of reference to know what the originals should have been like when new.
