MG MGA - vacuum line connection

I appreciate this subject has been discussed at length in the past, but:

I have read that the connection at the carb end can be alternatively made into the inlet manifold. Is this a sensible thing to do and if so how is it achieved.

It does seem to go against Barney's advice but your thoughts would be welcome'

Why do you want to change the connection point? Are you still running with SUs?

I have no reason to change, I was just wondering if the inlet manifold connection would be correct. Yes I am still running with original SUs.

Do not change it. The original distributor requires venturi vacuum signal. Switch to manifold vacuum would require a a change to vacuum retard distributor, similar to late model MGB. Definitely not going to improve the performance.

The characteristics of the vacuum delivery to the distributor are different, SU versus manifold, and therefore the timing on closed and part throttle will be "upset". Even if you change the dissy (and why would you?) it's a moot point whether the later MGB set up is any better. Peter Burgess thinks the later set up is not good.

Many thanks guys, much appreciated.
