MG MGA - Very Rare starter drive cover

hey guy's, I have listed a pretty hard to get original starter drive cover for the perfect restoration. These covers are mentioined on the site of the guru. I screwed up when i listed it and did't refrence MGA so it does not show up under MG's and i cannot change it. so I thougt i would share it in the forum.

Bill, I've been looking on US and UK Ebay virtually every day for four or five years and this is the first one of these I've seen so it certainly is very rare.
I think if I were you I would withdraw the item and relist it so that it appears under an MGA search. If you hadn't pointed it out I wouldn't have seen it in my daily MGA search.
So saying this they are not too difficult to make (see pic.) and they are difficult to see when in position.
I remember thinking when I installed mine without the floorboards in that it would be virtually impossible to remove without removing the engine(because of poor screw access) when the car was finished so I can understand why people leave them off.

I've taken copies of the pictures for posterity!................Mike

Bill, Mike's picture of his cover looks longer than the one you have posted on ebay, or is it just the camera angles you used....?

Funnily enough i was under my car yesterday and noticed mine was missing . So thought i would just pick one up didnt realise thay are that rare . Think thats why mine is missing and probably staying that way.

Don't bother. Even on a car with a low starter position (which has no bump on the floorboards) it bangs on the chassis. They may have been standard on other cars, but I don,t think they are necessary on an MGA. the one I have somewhere came off a Farina Morris

George,

I have a feeling that Mike's starter cover is home made, and not an original part. Mike should be able to tell us for sure. I can say that mine was missing when I bought the car, and I fabricated one by soldering thin sheet metal.

Are these metal or plastic? I have seen plastic versions but never a metal one.

By memory, not many cars had them, but memory won't tell me which. I think they were deleted completely, as later bell housings are not drilled for the screws. I cannot find the cover in the 1500 SPL either. There is a note in the Index to Improvements and Alterations that such a cover was introduced at am unknown date, so earlier cars at least did not have them. This list is for Magnette but most of it is common to MGA. Cover more common on A-Series engines, but not universal there either.

Yes, mine was home made. Just noticed another on Ebay complete with gearbox!...........Mike

The ebay listing has ended, the cover was pulled from auction...

Hi Guy’s Just wanted to drop a note as the seller of the Starter Drive Cover. I just relisted it on the advice of many in the forum. I am new to the eBay world and screwed up the listing by not mentioning "MGA" and they would not let me change it without ending the first one. My apologies to anyone who was interested. I also forwarded some detail pictures to Barney thinking that maybe he would have an interest in posing them on his site for the record.
Thanks for everyone’s assistance!
