MG MGA - voltage stabiliser
Does an MGA have a voltage stabiliser and if not can I fit one? I have the same problem as others. My fuel gauge is correct on full but is practically empty on 'half full'so I put trip on when filling and refill around 200 miles.I have checked sender and recalibrated gauge, which had no effect.I wonder whether voltage is correct for the instrument. |

"Does an MGA have a voltage stabiliser and if not can I fit one?" It would not work - the gauge on a MGA is different from that on the later MGBs (65 on). You would have to get a gauge from a 66 or later MGB to work with the stabilizer. I think that sending your gauge to a repair/calibration shop would probably get things working properly (the MGA/early MGB gauges are not a straight forward calibration). Cheers - Dave |

A pity but thanks Dave for quick reply. |

HL - you might want to see the discussion on the fuel guage/sending unit at: http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?2,2042377 Cheers, |

I too have a rule of 200 miles between fills. Avoid the Scarborough Faire / NOS Locators sender, the resistance is completely wrong, and their response to a complaint was .... silence.... still...... in spite of various attempts to contact them. So if you MUST buy a new one, don't go there! I have three fuel gauges and they all behave the same. If you can't get yours to work again, drop me a note and we can do a deal on one of my surplus ones! |

Have read the full discussion on the MGA fuel gauge which hilarious but at least convinces me to continue with filling every 200 miles but I would like a copy of trick dickies bent arm. |
