MG MGA - Website problems??

I am having problems recently opening some threads on this site. Most of them load very fast. Some seem to never complete the process. Specifically, the thread labelled "Rivets" I have tried this morning, for the last 10 minutes, to open this thread. I have waited; refreshed; backed up and tried again. All to no avail. All other threads are working just fine. This is not the only time in the recent past that this has occurred. It is always related to on or two threads.

I'm just wondering if it is something on my end, or with the site.

I believe it's the website, I've been having the same problems recently.

It seems to be the subject plus the time of the daythat create the hold-ups. I,too have the same.

That was quick. Thanks. I guess it is the site and not on my end. I was wondering if it was time to rebuild my computer!

I finally got into the "Rivets" subject. Not really sure but, if I remember correctly, the problem seems to be related to subjects (thread) that include photos, even though the photos do not open until you click on the link.

Occasionally a bit slow for me, but not today. Has anyoune contacted the WebMaster?

I'm fairly certain he's aware of the problems, but I think they are beyond his control unless he wants to move to another host server. I'm having similar issues, sometimes very slow response, other times it fails to post my messages. I guess I can't complain for what it costs! I'm just grateful the site is here and allows us to trade information.

We have recently changed the timings of the backups after complaints in another subject area from people in the UK that the site was slow. My guess is that this change is now affecting those west of the pond. Perhaps you can let me know what time you experience the slow response.

I'm in the UK, admittedly on a fat lease line with a fast desktop, but I haven't seen it.

Thanks

Mike, I can tell you that the problem exists early AM, say between 6:00 and 8:00 AM here in the Chicago area . We are on daylight savings time right now. I do not know if the problem also exists at other times. I'll keep a watch and let you know. However, It seems to be related to particular subjects only. Other Subjects seem to work fine.

Mike, recently the problems have been at the times Chuck said which is -6 hours from your time zone. (12:00am until 2:00am GMT) Recently I haven't noticed the slow down that was occuring between the hours of approximately 4:30pm until 6:30pm GMT. That consisted of mainly just slow loading for all posts and boards, especially ones with photos and was being experienced by users both in GB and NA.
The current problems we're seeing seem to be mostly associated with the longer subjects and those with photos, but can occur on the shorter subjects as well. It's definitely something related to this site as I monitor from my work where we are on a fast server and ISP. I also keep track of three or four other boards, all based in North America and none of those are slowed at the same times MG Enthusiasts is. I notice that most of the users having problems are all in North America, could this be a problem with the international link and not visable in the UK? I know you are trying to resolve the issues, thanks for your hard work.

Mike, this morning at 7:25 AM CDT, I tried to open the "coupe door piller" thread. It took almost 5 minutes to load. Everything else seemed to work fine, even the "rivets" thread I had problems with yesterday. Other sites were working just fine.

I hope this helps get to the root cause.

Ah ha...

Problem located and fixed. It was to do with the image links and this is why some threads loaded instantly and others didn't.

Mike Plumstead

Seems to be working extremely well at the moment. Very good work Mike.

Thanks!
C Schaefer

Good fix, Mike!
