MG MGA - window and door handle removed
I am trying to determine how to remove the window and door handles from my 59 coupe. If anyone has an answer I would greatly appreaciate it. Thanks for any help. Bud W. |

Going from memory here, I think you just have to pull back the escutchen (the spring loaded bell-shaped detail) which will expose a short pin that can then be driven out with a small drift. This pin holds the handle to a shaft. George |

Roll pins hold them on. Pins out and handles pulled off far enough to see holes.

Thanks fellows for the info and the pic. I believe I can remove it now. It's great to have access to the knowledge of others especially if you are a novice such as I am. Also I can see a wire circular spring around the end of the shaft about where the pin would be. What purpose does it serve. Thanks Again Bud W. |

You need to push in towards the outside of the car. The spring pushes the part you need to move back to expose the pin. On the several cars I have worked on it was not a roll pin originally,it's just a pin that slides into place,no pounding needed. The spring pushes on the escutchen and that "bell" that George mentions trapps the pin in place. |

The pin is solid and is a fairly tight but sliding fit through the hole. The spring holds the escutcheon over the pin so that it cannot fall out. This has to be pushed back to reveal the pin. I usually use a rivet and small hammer to tap out the pin. |

Bud, following up on your earlier post regarding installation of a wood dash in your coupe. I would be interested in buying your original coupe dash if you want to sell it. Cheers, George <gag@aps.anl.gov> |
