MG MGA - window regulator spring

Hi All.
The drivers window on my Coupe slowly drops whilst driving.
Barney suggested chaging the spring which is also fitted to the Morris Minor. I now have a spring. Any one changed one or rebuilt a door lately to give me any tips?
Thanks

Hi S

See my write up on Barney's CP-112H on fitting the spring, other Coupe door repairs too.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers

Hi S,

How about this as a suggestion?

Find two Lucas Electric Window Winders from--say an SD1 Rover---
Remove the spring and crabk spindle from the MG's winder frame-- Mesh the 2 gears---weld the frames together---wire it up---A great job.
It will all fit up inside the door's space.
You will need 2 double thow, double pole rocker switches.
Get these from the donor car.
A great job for a wet Saturday Afternoon.

That's an interesting idea.
I had a look on ebay for SD1 window motors and the only two I could find were in Australia.
Maybe XJ6 would do.

Good day Dave,
The alteration is very easy to set-up. I altered an MG B's winders earlier and more recently the MG A Coupe's winders.
The profile of the gears--the pinion on the motor, and the gear on the MG's winder, are the same. They just mesh-up.
Being all British---and Lucas---I would guess that the motors are all the same. The motors are quite thin, so that they easily fit inside the door below the quarter window. Just some carefull welding.
Make a small centre console to hold the rocker switches, or fit arm rests with built-in switches. Easy.
More info? - happy to forward furthere details-- suggest you use direct E-Mail, since the description would be lengthy.
Enjoy the exercise.
Cheers Ian Cowen.

at less than £35 each brand new, why bother with used ones?
