MG MGA - Wiper motor wiring

I am rewiring a 1500 for a friend, and would be really grateful if someone can tell me the colour of the wore going to terminal 2 of the wiper motor - I can't check on my car because I have a 2-speed motor fitted.

Thanks

Dominic, i have checked the original works manual and the haynes manual for the 1500 and they both show the 3 wires and their colours but not exactly which terminals on the motor that they connect to.

If its any help, the green wire is the live feed from the fusebox, the black is the earth wire which originates from the E terminal on the regulator and the black wire with the white stripe connnects to the wiper switch. I would guess that you already knew what the wires were.

On the 1600 diagram it shows that green live feed wire from the fuse box connects to the no 2 terminal.

The switch wire is black with green stripe and connects to terminal 1 on the motor.

It shows that the earth wire connects to the motor casing but doesnt clearly show it is specifically connected to the no 3 terminal.

I would expect the 1500 and 1600 motors would be connected similarly.

You could try it using a separate power supply with a low amperage fuse in circuit and test it then with no danger of any damage.

best of luck

Just a few pictures of what I have to work with - the old loom was rotten beyond belief, and bodged beyond belief by the DPO as well. Lucky it didn't catch fire...

Seems that the car is still structurally original, but lots of the wiring wasn't. Had to take the heater out to get at the bulkhead stuff it was so solid with old wiring and insulation tape. I'll take a picture of the wreckage of the old harness in a couple of days.

Is the rusty firewall shelf caused by brake fluid spillage over the passage of time? If so, it's a good advert for us silicone users.

Good luck sorting out that rat's nest Dominic - rather you than me.

It's not brake fluid, away from the shiny outer surfaces, it's like that pretty much everywhere. But in spite of the cosmetics, it seems quite solid, if a little grubby (this one lives in France, it would never been even accepted for an inspection here unless you could eat your breakfast off it!)

A good chance to clean and repaint the shelf, though!

How much of that is rust, and how much is just dirt and crud?

I,m not going to do anything more than replace the wiring and get the electrics working as they should. The rest is a project for someone else.
