MG MGB Technical - 1/4-28 fasteners
Anyone noticed how it's getting more difficult to find 1/4-28 fasteners, especially machine screws? Doesn't seem to be a problem though with many of the the other diameters. Tom |

Tom, Yes, you are correct, although my experience is in the current restoration of my Hillman Imp. Almost everything on it is fine thread, with plenty of 1/4-28. Being that I wanted to replace almost every fastener in stainless, my only option was a company called Fastenal. Fantastic variety online, and you do not have to buy a million of one fastener!! Julian, I'll try online at Fastenal. Their local store doesn't carry 1/4-28. I get most fasteners from Material Search Company (MSC) but they sent me a note saying that they cannot find a supplier for the particular length I need in 1/4-28. Tom |

I just finished making up some shift lever locating pins turned down from grade 5 bolts for a TR6. Locating anything in fine threads, locally, seems to be an exercise in futility. RAY |

McMaster-Carr has most fasteners (as well as everything else) you'll need in a variety of materials. |

Kemper, McMaster-Carr was actually the first place I looked. They have a very limited selection of 1/4-28 and no listings at all for phillips oval head machine screws, which is what I was looking for. I was surprised because they do have a fairly extensive range of fasteners. Tom |

Tom,what are you using 1/4-28 on/for? Thanks,Rich O |

Rich, the four screws that hold down the shift boot plate are 1/4-28 phillips oval head. The original screws are too short because I have a Moss molded carpet over the tunnel which is much thicker than original. So I need longer screws. But I've solved the problem since my last post. Went to the hardware store and got some 1/4-20 stainless phillips oval heads and ran a 14-28 die over the threads. It actually worked! And since these aren't critical fasteners all should be ok.
