MG MGB Technical - 1.75' inlet manifold make?
I recently bought an 1.75" inlet manifold, and I was wondering about the make. It has the following cast on the tubing: C / T London ...the "/" is in the shape of a lightning bolt. Any suggestions...someone has said it is an original Special Tuning item. |

Hi Gary I've been hanging off waiting for an Englishman to answer your question but----- The only works/factory 1 3/4" manifold I know of is the MGA unit part no. AEH200 As far as I know there wasn't one for the MGB as a modified standard one does the job. The manifold you have there if marked C/T London is one produced by-- Conversion & Tuning Centre , London I think--- Someone surely knows more about them than us Aussies Cheers Willy |

Hi Willy Having problems tracking down the exact make. We wondered if this was just before SAH or just after or during. There seem to have been quite a few makers and suppliers of modded manifolds in the 60s.I still see C/T manifolds and wondered if they were still being made elsewhere? Peter |

Peter Yeah- I just did a googly thing and found item no. 160393576416 on UK ebay It's to suit a Hillman Imp but has the C/T London casting on it and an interesting description below I would guess it to be the same brand as the one Gary has. Maybee. Over & out Willy |

CT was a tuning company with a small shop in Leytonstone - I still have a manifold I bought from them back in the 1960s for a Sunbeam Rapier!! |

Hi Gary Found it! http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/conversion_tuning%20(CT).htm on the webpage there is a link to a pdf of one of their tuning catalogues. This is taken from the webpage Dennis Powell C&T managing director Formed in the late 1960's by Dennis Powell, Conversions & Tuning (C&T) were one of the last companies to really take advantage of the tuning boom in the 50's & 60's. Based in Brixton, South London C&T produced an ever widening variety of tuning components for a massive range of cars. Although not specifically A Series specialists they offered a variety of tuning options ranging from mild road conversions to more exotic race applications. C&T were one of the few companies to survive the lean days of the early 1970's to go on well into the 1980's and possibly beyond. I can certainly remember their advertisements from the 1980's. Hi Chris I went into the tiny shop in Leytonstone when I was at College in the late 70s I bought Mini bits from them, maybe they stocked CT stuff? I was only buying used calipers and discs :) Peter |

Hi Gary Mark who did the website is very friendly on emails, I have linked his site on my main site. Mark has put a lot of skill, time and effort into his site, it has a lot of good stuff on it I spent ages browsing it! Peter |

Peter, I was there a good 10 years earlier, but I doubt it had changed much - it was one of those timeless places like old ironmongers shops! You are probably right but I think in the late 60s they had a big yellow nameplate above the window that said Conversions & Tuning with the C/T logo - I always assumed it was part of the company - you used to fall over piles of exhausts and other tuning bits to get to the counter! |

What an astonishing site. Kudos to Mark! And thanks Peter for telling us! FRM |
