MG MGB Technical - 3 sync box conv to Sierra T9 box
hello all, Did any one on this BBS ever realize the gearbox conversion from an early 3 sync box to a Ford Sierra T9 one? All pictures related to this conversion would be welcome. Regards. |

Renou, Did this on my 66 roadster a few years ago. Used the Hi-Gear kit. Very straightforward to fit, bit of a fight to remove the spigot bush. New bush comes with a flange fitted with screws for easy removal. The new crossmember makes gearbox removal easier too. Didn't take many photos but happy to take some now if you want to see it on the car. John |

Hi John, Many thanks for the reply. If possible, I would have liked to get pics from the fitting stage, just to see the way clutch case and gearbox are hauled together. I bet I could realize it with an MGB bell clutch, couldn't I? As far I can have got infos, I am nbearly conviced that the Higear conv is based upon the B clutch housing arranged to mate the T9 gearbox. Please, feel free to send me pics on my Email. guy dot a dot renou @ orange dot fr. Best regards. |

Renou, The HiGear conversion uses a bespoke bellhousing - the MGB gearbox bellhousing is integral to the gearbox and can't be used. HiGear do different bellhousings to mate to MGB 3 bearing and 5 bearing engine backplates as well as ones for MGA high & low starter positions. The kits come with different height clutch fork pivots to match the application. The HiGear kit is complete and easy to fit. |

Chris, I acknowledge completely your comments. I gonna check by myself what is feasible, but I bet Mr Gamble did inspire himself his solution from the inventory. May be I am wrong but I wanna go a little way just to see... Thanks for your collaboration I hope to still enhance, and many thanks to John who sent me his pics. best regards. |

Renou I installed the HiGear kit on my 73 MGB replacing the later gearbox. As Chris indicated, the kit includes a custom bell housing designed to suit the specific gearbox that is being replaced. The origianl clutch slave cylinder mounts on the new bell housing and there is no need even to rebleed the system. I created a simple web site that includes some description and photos of my experience - it is at http://home.cogeco.ca/~bquartermaine/MGB/ I was very impressed with the HiGear kit and the gear change action was very smooth. I covered 10,000+ miles before selling the car. Good luck, Barry |
