MG MGB Technical - A 'Chrome' finish in a spray can?

Here is an interesting link for a product that is supposed to replicate a chrome finish, http://www.alsacorp.com/live/view_killerchrome.html , but from a spray can. I know, most of what we have been offered along this line has been only a poor substitute for the real thing, and I wouldn't recommend even this for things like bumpers or grilles, but it could be a choice for interior work or other things you might like to jazz up with some brite work. If it has good heat resistance, it could be of some interest for car enthusiasts. It appears that this is what it is aimed at. FYI.

On the face (ho ho) of it that is a rmarkable demonstration, but why doesn't the backing to that tile equally change to a highly reflective surface? It also looks like you have to start with a highly polished surface, i.e. it will turn a black mirror to a silver one, but not much else.

Well, I would think you would have to get the surface as polished as possible for such a short demo. I would like to see what it looks like if you were to take a less polished surface and built up the paint by a few coats. That would be a bit more of a real world demo. The job done on the tile actually looked fairly thin to me, with spotty coverage, altho the sheen looked good, even for a single coat. I am not sure how they acheive this other than that they must use "micro-milling" of the pigment to get the particles fine enough to give the illusion of a solid film. Just a guess.

Looks good doesn't it? Who wants to be first to try it out for real?

I can't wait to use this chrome paint on my rubber bumpers!

This paint has been availiable in automotive finishes for at least a year now, looks like someone finally put it in a rattle can. The surface has to be very smooth (any imperfections will stick out when done), and you have to start out with a black base for it to work. Very good results can be achieved when sprayed right, as for durability ????? time will tell.

Now there's a thought Marvin. Some really BIG chrome bumpers.
Would it look better or worse?

Just used a version of this for my Son's tooner. You have to polish the metal as smooth as you can get it to get a nice metal looking finish.

For smooth steel, it works ok. We used one that is blue and it has a chrome blue look when done on new smooth steel.

It will also cover regular steel but you will not get as nice a finish.
