MG MGB Technical - A stray wire in the engine compartmemt

Following on from the fun and success I had with the Hazard lights, my final question ... for now, is:

I have a stray wire (looks to be slate gray) emerging from the wire harnes close to the fuse box area in this November 74 (North American Spec) Rubber Bumper car that I am doing up for a friend.

Try as I might (and admittedly the 20/20 vision I had isnt there anymore) I cannot see such a wire in the wiring diagram - but perhaps some of you other clever gurus out ther can ID it for me and tell me where it ought to be hooked up to please.

Many thanks

I believe it should go to the fuse for the anti run-on valve. As I recall the fuse is under the fuse box.

Indeed, slate via an in-line fuse and changing to slate/purple goes to the anti-runon valve which is plumbed to the canister, the other side of the valve is slate/yellow and goes to the oil pressure switch.

Once again guys, I am indebted. Do either of you have a photo of the engine bay that would show the in-line fuse set up please that you could post?

Thanks

That's interesting.

My '67 B (ex-SU development) has a pressure switch in the line to the oil pressure gauge and a purple wire which disappears through the bulkhead and reappears on the other side where the evaporative canister would have been.

I always wondered what it was.

Is it the same thing? The oil pressure switch was in an adapter right by the engine i.e. in the engine compartment already, not the cabin.
Paul Hunt

It is on a brass T-piece in the engine bay, next to the heater. The wire disappears through the bulkhead and then comes back into the engine bay on the near side.

As it's RHD the bracket for the canister is mounted on the blanking plate for the LHD pedal box.
