MG MGB Technical - Alloy Wheels Dont Fit?

I recently bought a set of minator 14" MGB alloy wheels for my dads 79 BGT however when I put them on the front the track rod end seems to be scraping on the inside of the wheel has anyone else encountered this? If so how do you rectify it?

I had this, I bought a set of Minators, they were secondhand, fitting them on my 76, the nearside trackrod end took the balance weights off. The offside was alright. I had balance weights put on the outside and that was ok.
Recently I had new tyres fitted, made sure the balance weights were fitted to the outside, but they must have mixed the wheels up because it jammed the nearside wheel on full lock like a brake.
There must be a difference in the offset, but it does not display the offset number to what I can make out on the Minator. This being the case maybe the supplier
has got the wheel mixed up with another 14inch.

Check the off-sets. I had a set of Minators made by KN at Telford. Although the PCD was accurate the off- set was wrong, finished up making spacers for them to get the geometry right. When I talked to the factory they suspected the wheels were for another application but couldn't explain what!! Previously i've had the problem with the track rod ends, and balance weights, on 14" wheels weights. Had the stick-ons put between the "spokes".

I had the same problem when I changed from wires to alloys. I ended up fitting smaller track rod ends. MGOC stocked them I believe, so give them a call. I believe it was the most expensive one they sold!! Also Brown and Gammons sell them as specially for alloy wheels.
Part number GSJ168A

I may have had a thread on here about it earlier this year.

Alloy wheels and track rod ends.

I list a QH part number.

Is it both sides? If only one maybe recentralising the rack would fix it.

This is an old thread, and I as it were saved myself trouble and bought 15" wheels! Plenty of room with modern rubber it updates as well. Sure it is not original. Mike

I will have to have a good look when I put them on the car as I have only fitted one. They seem to fit fine on the studs apart from the bloody track rod ends! Thinking maybe smaller track rod ends maybe the way forward on this one.

And track rod ends are interesting. When I finished my suspension re-build, I found two differect trac rod ends. On the one side thes was a castllated nut and a split pin, on the other a nyloc nut. Both seem to be the same size, quite big and chunky. Mike
