MG MGB Technical - Best MGB Hood & Fitter in SW ?

I'm looking for a new mohair hood for my 71 (black frame) MGB. Any experience of best one to get and best place to fit (Berkshire / South W London area) - or is it simple to do? Thanks Andrew

If you get the new header rail, then it's easier than without!

I got a vinyl hood with hood rail & all fastners fitted and it... fitted!

Thanks - bought a new hood with header from SUMMIT motors in Maidenhead. Got a good discount and will fit it tomorrow ! Hope it goes well !

O.K - I did it ! Wow that was a tight pull to get the catches on but it looks fantastic.

In the end I unzipped the rear window and fitted it closed for a few hours before unclipping, zipping window and then stright back on again. Needed a fair force on the catches, but they seem quite strong. Hopefully it will 'give' a bit. Not opening it for a few months !!!

It'll be a lot easier in warmer weather, but you don't need the hood in warmer weather... use a tonneau in the summer with an spring-open umbrella for when it's raining and you're stopped at traffic lights.

I like the brolly idea. Only with a passenger to operate it though. Might upset Mr Plod :)

With a passenger it gets difficult, you would need a big brolly!

On your own with the tonneau cover over the passenger side it's easy. A spring loaded brolly goes up less than a second, can be stowed away while the lights are on amber, and all this happens with the car stationary - surely that has got to be legal?

I only do this because I wear glasses and it's a pain when there are rain spots all over them.

We all see convertibles in the summer with the hood up - let's put them all to shame in our old timers!
