MG MGB Technical - Body Mods, Rear wing (fender)

Gents,

Has anyone modified an MG body to remove those ugly fender lips that run the length of the top of the rear fender (and the front cowl). At a first glance the welds seem to be on the inner lip. Could one just grind them off and braze up the gap?

Thanks,

Mark.

Mark,

Look at this site.

Scroll down and look at the images. Ray is very nice and if you contact him he will help you and give you advice about getting rid of the weld seams.

Inprirational! Thanks Robert.

I can attest to that. Ray has been very helpful a couple of times with information on how to incorporate some of his ideas into my car.

Wow, that's some ride, great workmanship all around. But who the heck are the 'Wanna Ride' girls?!

The seam beading consists of a 'T' cross-section with the leg of the 'T' spot-welded between flanges on the wing and boot surround inside the boot. You can cut the filler strip out and fill the resultant groove, definitely don't do anything to the flange inside the boot.

Paul thanks for the detail, that's what I thought it was (but wanted confermation before attacking the body witha angle grinder).

"Wanna Ride" girls... more to love!
