MG MGB Technical - Bonnet Finishing Strip

I just purchased a 1970 GT to go with my 74 roadster. The 70 has the recessed grill, but is missing the bonnet finishing strip. Moss Motors part number 455--335 and the factory part number AHH9888. It seems this part is made from unobtainium but I'm hoping someone has one for sale or a lead on where I can find one.

Thanks,
Sherman

Funnily enough a pal with a 72 and honeycomb grille had the bonnet finishing strip. He knew nothing about it but was the second owner, I presume the original owner didn't like the recessed grille, and leaving that strip in saved having to fill the holes.

There are a couple of breakers in the UK that can often supply 'impossible' parts - Welsh MG and Andy Jennings, FWIW.

Thanks, I've sent off emails.

Hi,

I used stick-on cut to length trim strip, bought off eBay, as used by customisers etc. You can buy it in various widths and lengths. You'd have to look pretty closely to see it's not the original. It only cost a couple of pounds.

Normally I hate that stick on strip stuff but after seeing the super neat job you have done there I'm almost converted--almost

There were some aftermarket strips available for a while here but they had more of a shiny anodized look rather than a chrome look--- Haven't even seen any of them for a while

Is this what you are looking for.

I think that bit is the piece that attaches to the grille, not the bonnet finishing strip.??

I wonder if we should contact Kelvin Dodd at Moss and stress the need for this piece to be reintroduced. I mean, really, how difficult can it be to manufacture. They make much more complicated parts. I would think the pent up demand would make it worth while.
