MG MGB Technical - Boot seal joint

Trying to stop a leak in my 78 B boot. I bought a new seal, but not sure where the joint needs to be.

I have it at center top and have never had a leak. Cheers - Dave

Centre bottom, ditto. Given the shape of the flange I thing the car would have to be under water for either to leak. Whether it is better at the top and hence only reached in deeper water is a moot point :o)

Paul and Dave,
I replaced the old seal with a new one and this time placed the joint at the top with a good butt joint. We are expecting major storms tonight, so this will be a good test.
Before this post, I looked at my 67, 73 and 74 and they all have the seal on the boot lid, so I couldn't compare them.
Thanks

The storm hit this afternoon and we got a lot of rain.
I looked in the boot and the only water was in the center off the boot floor. I guess now I need to check out the emblem seal.
Any suggestions for how to seal this point?

I get the occasional drop through there in very heavy rain as well. If it's the octagon with the studs that go through and the nuts underneath I'd use a little silicone round the studs. My 'MGB' logo fixes using pegs through plastic sockets, which should seal unless they are split along their length.
