MG MGB Technical - Brantz Speedo Sensor

Any hints on getting the speedo cable through the Brantz sensor? I recall it was a struggle the last time I did this on a midget but after well over an hour on the BGT one I have given up for a rest.

I have even resorted to some silicone grease on the cable end it but no luck

Any thoughts?

Bit confused Mike--The sensors I've seen screw onto the speedo and the cable screws onto the sensor
Do you mean that the inner cable won't fit into the sensor---
Can you fit the cable up to the sensor first then fit the sensor up to the speedo--

As far as I could tell the screw on type would not fit my speedo so I went for this one:

https://www.brantz.co.uk/product-page/speedometer-cable-sensor-br1

where you cut the speedo cable , having removed the inner (!), shorten the outer by 13mm and insert the sensor between the ends - having pushed the inner though it - therein lies the problem, it's a really tight fit to put it mildly

Mike, noticed in the instructions--
----------
Note: Some old cables require the hole to be slightly enlarged due to larger than normal cable dimensions.

Maximum Inner Cable Diameter: 3mm (without drilling)
Maximum Outer Cable Diameter: 10mm
----------

It appears they might have gone metric, the MG cable , I would imagine would be imperial so probably 1/8" (3.2mm)
You might have to get the calipers out and measure up your inner cable just to confirm and drill the thing out to suit, that'll be fun

Thanks, all sorted now some hours later. To close the thread off:

By means of holding the cable as tightly as I dared in a vice and with some silicon grease, I managed to get the sensor on mm by mm - it took ages and all of my grip - just having enough cable showing from the vice so I did not kink it. Once I could get hold of the end I held that in the vice and pulled - hard, it really is tight but I suppose it needs to be

All fitted now and working a treat

I have commissioned a 3d printed collar for the diff input flange that takes four 5mm cubic magnets for a VSS square wave signal for an Electric Power Steering system - Each unit costs me a bottle of good wine (the developer comes from a vineyard owning family so the cheap plonk is out). It should work for any similar square wave input without cutting cables, and the hall effect sensors are just a few dollars. Picture attached wrapped up ready to send with the EPS power connector housing and spade contacts

Here's the photo, it seems the site updates are having side effects...
